For a luminous look, take care of the area around your eyes
Who hasn’t looked in the mirror at one time or another and found dark circles and/or bags under their eyes? These unattractive wrinkles that appear around the eye area are very common and make the face look tired. However, it is our appearance that is most affected by these dark circles and bags, as they dim and dull our shine.
Dark circles or bags?
Both can be found around the eye area, the most fragile and delicate part of the face. This is because this layer of skin isn’t even 5 millimetres thick on average, making it five times thinner than the rest of the face. However, dark circles and bags have different causes and as such there are notable differences between the two.
- Dark Circles. They usually have a dark tone, although sometimes they can appear yellowish, and they are found below the eyes. There are various causes of dark circles, including iron deficiency, the lack of this mineral can cause the blood vessels in this area of the face to coagulate. Genetics, a lack of sleep (which causes dilation in the blood vessels) and age (skin thins with age) also contribute to the formation of dark circles.
- Bags Visually, bags under the eyes are an accumulation of liquids and fats and they appear in the form of swelling. Amongst the causes of eye bags are genetic factors, but they can also appear as a result of liquid retention, which is common in a lot of people.
Guidelines for avoiding dark circles and bags
If the cause is genetic, it is difficult to prevent the appearance of dark circles and bags, but if the cause is something else, there are certain guidelines that can help to avoid them forming.
- Adopting certain habits, such as sleeping on your back with a pillow and with your head higher than your feet can help to avoid your eyelids swelling, and as a result, help to avoid bags appearing. Using ice or refrigerated cucumber slices can also help as a kind of shock therapy when the bags appear, as they both reduce eye swelling and the inflammation of the blood vessels.
- Sometimes the bags form through liquid retention, a problem usually caused by excessive salt consumption. It is therefore recommended to avoid salty foods and instead opt for diuretics, like tomatoes, blueberries and green tea, as they stimulate renal function.
- Specific treatment. A range of highly effective dermocosmetic solutions exist to correct these wrinkles and successfully help you recover the luminosity in your look. One of these is Cytokine, a gel with retinol, cytokines and other active ingredients that, thanks to their relaxing, hydrating and firming properties, help to reduce bags and dark circles. Another, Expression, is a solution with a hyaluronic acid base, amongst other ingredients, that redensifies and fills expression lines, softening them. We also have draining and toning capsules available, Legvass Cápsulas, which are taken once daily after food. They are a dietary supplement that contains vitamin C, horse chestnuts, red vine, centella, ruscus and rutin.
- Make up. This is a quick solution and is effective for visibly correcting the bags and dark circles and enabling your look to recover its shine. For best results, first apply a concealer that’s the same colour as your skin or one shade lighter in the case of dark bags, then pat in some matte powder below the eyes in order to set the concealer.
With these hints and tips, dark circles and bags will be lessened, leaving a more smooth and uniform appearance and a luminous and expressive look around your eyes which will improve the overall aspect of your face.
