Treatments for oily skin

Whatever type of skin you have (oily, dry, mixed, normal or sensitive), the important thing is that you know it really well in order to give it the treatment it deserves.

Choosing the right products to apply is just as important as applying them daily so that your skin looks firm and radiant. Today we are focusing on oily skin, in particular, what its characteristics are, how to treat it and some tips and advice for pampering it day to day.

Is your skin oily?

Shiny skin, enlarged pores, blackheads, pimples and spots are all signs of oily skin. An excess of sebum is the cause of this skin type and as a result, oily skin is prone to premature loss of firmness.

However, unlike other skin types, oil-prone skin is more resistant to external agents and presents fewer wrinkles and expression lines. Even so, it is a skin type that requires specific care in order to stay in good condition.

How to care for oily skin on a day-to-day basis

If you follow this straightforward daily routine you will be able to successfully regulate excess sebum and your skin will appear less shiny and smoother.

  • Daily facial cleansing. This is an essential step and should be done twice a day: in the morning and at night. Micellar solutions (whether they are water, gel or oil-based) are an excellent option for carrying out this daily facial hygiene.
  • Weekly facial cleansing. As above, periodically, we should perform a deeper facial hygiene routine by following these two simple steps: exfoliation and intense hydration with a face mask. In the next post (incorporamos el enlace del post1) we will explain this to you in much more detail.
  • Keeping shiny and sagging skin at bay. To control shiny skin, especially on the forehead and nose, matte-effect creams are an ideal solution. Also, to prevent and tackle sagging skin, we recommend dermo-cosmetic solutions that help to produce collagen as they are very effective in strengthening the skin.
  • Gentle hydration. On the other hand, oily skin can also dry out; therefore it is advisable to use an oil-free light texture lotion to prevent it from becoming oilier. We suggest that you try out MartiDerm’s proteoglycan ampoules, LIPOSOMAS, made specifically for oily and/or reactive skin.

Some tips and extra advice

Also, some habits complement and enhance the results of your beauty regimen so that your skin looks marvellous.

  • Our skin is a reflection of what we eat and therefore requires a specific diet. With regard to oily skin we recommend that you keep it well hydrated. Drink 2 litres of water a day. Eat foods rich in Omega 3 (avocado, salmon and tuna), which have anti-inflammatory properties. Don’t forget to include fibre in your diet. These foods are ideal to ensure your body gets rid of toxins and also help to prevent the overproduction of oil.
  • Avoid touching your face or blemishes with dirty hands to avoid skin inflammation. It is also important to have clean hands before applying products.
  • Cosmetics also play an important role in the care of oily skin. Choose oil-free products and powder texture makeup as they will absorb and cover up shiny skin. Want a trick? Always use a brush to apply blush to your cheeks and get into the habit of having a pack of tissues in your bag as they will help you to lessen the appearance of shiny and oily skin without ruining your makeup.
If you carry out all of these specific skincare routines, the habits will become part of your daily regimen and will help you to combat excess oil and regain your skin’s natural elasticity.
