Take care of your eyes
The eye contour area is very sensitive and requires specific and appropriate precautions to keep your eyes looking bright and healthy. There is no doubt that more care is required in summer to face the environmental factors that can affect the skin area around your eyes. The temperature, solar radiation and the tendency towards dehydration are the main risk factors that can affect the health of this skin region.
However, they are not the only things we should consider. We often change our
rest and eating habits during summer. These changes can directly affect our skin and make it more sensitive to environmental conditions. A structurally finer and more sensitive skin region can deteriorate and age if it isn't looked after properly at this time of year.
What’s so special about the eye contour?
The skin of the periocular region is finer, with less subcutaneous tissue and almost no lipid layer. This means that it is very sensitive to environmental changes and the concentration of nutrients because it has a lower capacity for restructuring than other facial skin zones.
That's why it is where the first expression lines and wrinkles appear, because its extracellular matrix has a lower concentration of fibres and is subject to greater movement due to facial expressions.
Looking after your eye contour area properly, particularly in the summer, is a determining factor in slowing aging and sagging around the eyes.
Tips to take care of your eye contour
In addition to following certain
recommendations, we can help you with a series of tips to ensure that your eyes and you enjoy the sun and your loved ones at this special time of year:
- Sunscreen: solar radiation can affect your eye area more negatively than in other zones. That’s why it’s important not to forget to protect it properly. Because it’s a zone with different features, the emollient you choose must also be especially designed for it. It will usually contain a high SPF (sun protection factor) and be non-greasy.
- Sunglasses, hats, etc.: physical protection is important to reduce oxidation caused by solar radiation. If you use sunglasses, we recommend large ones that protect you right up to the temple, enabling this part of the skin to be sheltered from the sun.
- Make-up: you’ll probably spend a few nights out having fun with family and friends and it’s very possible that the upper and lower eyelid region may get puffy due to lack of vascular drainage. No-one wants bags under their eyes, but they can appear as a result of changing rest times and also with inadequate facial hydration. A tissue that doesn't absorb water properly must be nourished correctly to recover its functions.
Eyelid-specific
make-up (concealer) with sunscreen will let you ride out a tough morning after a long, fabulous night.
Bear in mind that this is a good time not to wear make-up and let your skin breathe freely and be nourished more easily.
- Dedicated nourishment and moisturisation: products exclusively for this area have a very high concentration of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and trace elements. The most common textures are usually gels or non-greasy emollients because only a small amount is needed.
