5 keys for your beauty routine in winter

The period of the year that is full of gifts, smiles, lights and, of course, those anticipated meetings with family, friends and colleagues, is drawing close. Although our diaries are full and tell us that there are many events, more than we would like, there is no doubt that we love this time of year. In December you always appreciate these endearing events in which it is very important to monitor food excesses and those extra drinks, without forgetting to follow a good beauty routine.

Furthermore, Christmas, as you know, is accompanied by lower temperatures, with the risk of this causing dryness for our skin. This means that we must take special care in the winter cold to avoid the exacerbated dehydration that it causes.

So, in order for our skin to shine, and not exactly like a Christmas tree, we present below a routine that focusses on our skin shining in a healthy way in this unique period:

  1. Cleanliness yes, irritating our skin no. We must always wash our face and our skin with lukewarm water. Increasing the temperature of the shower, despite the fact that we would pay to live in there, only increases flaking. It is important to avoid washing our hands excessively, since this could lead to unflattering contact dermatitis.
  2. Hydration. The most important and essential step for our face is its complete hydration. We must apply mild products tested dermatologically around 2-3 times a day after we wash. The best way is to use creams daily that have a high lipid composition. These hydrating creams (hyaluronic acid, vitamin F, squalene or ceramides) avoid the skin’s water evaporating. And, if time is tight, we recommend using fast-acting ampoules just before any event.
  3. Protect yourself from the cold and changes in temperature. The vasoconstrictor effect created when the temperature decreases makes tissues lose water and become drier, and therefore more friable. This phenomenon can be observed very frequently on lips and fingers. Therefore, try to always use gloves and warm clothes. If you are going to have a few days in the snow, remember that ultraviolet radiation increases up to 80% with the reflection of light, and, as such, so does its harmful effect.
  4. Special treatments. This period of the year is ideal for having more intense treatments such as peelings or laser treatment, which rejuvenate the skin. During the treatment, remember to use sunscreen creams, because this way you will counteract the hypersensitivity effect that they cause.
  5. Avoid excesses. We know it, it is very easy to say, but impossible to achieve. We understand that decreasing the daily stress around these dates will be impossible. But it has been demonstrated that rest and adjusting our diet and increasing our intake of food and water, is a source of health for this skin of ours that will suffer during the harshness of these days. A vitamin C and antioxidant rich diet is fundamental for facing these months. Tobacco can have a negative impact on the appearance of vascular disorders, which, if they become visible, are difficult to treat. Alcohol can also favour distal vasodilation and along with the cold effect it can cause rather unsettling lesions.

Above all, we hope that you protect yourself very well from the cold and achieve optimal hydration so that your skin can look healthy and cared for.
