From the age of 30, the first signs of ageing begin to appear and they intensify with time. Prevention is the best option to avoid the skin being blemished, making it look older, dull and sagging.
What is facial flaccidity?
Facial flaccidity is the loss of firmness and elasticity of the facial skin, caused by a decrease or weakening of the tissues which hold is together, mainly collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and muscle fibres, essential to maintain a smooth, firm and bright skin.
Our bodies produce their own collagen and elastin, but with age, from around 30 years old, the production of these proteins decreases, so we should apply them to our bodies externally.
7 tips to prevent facial flaccidity

- Diet. Diet noticeably influences the appearance of skin: a lack of protein and nutrients can accelerate the appearance of the first signs of ageing. To prevent this from happening, your diet should include antioxidants, essential for cellular regeneration and maintaining firm skin.
- Vitamin C, present in foods like oranges, kiwis and green peppers, is one of the antioxidants which prevents photoageing and slows the appearance of wrinkles and facial blemishes.
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids contribute to the elasticity and hydration of skin. Walnuts, pistachios and sunflower seeds contain a high dose of vitamin C.
- Vitamin E. Essential for to increase collagen production, pumpkin, walnut and hazelnut seeds are a source of this vitamin.
- Sun screen. The sun is one of our skin’s worst enemies, because it accelerates premature aging and causes blemishes. It is important to use sun cream every day, not only during sun exposure, but every time you go out in the street.

Here are two simple and practical facial exercises for you to try: first, try opening your mouth as wide as possible and slowly saying the vowels; secondly, puff your cheeks up and gently put pressure on them with the index and middle fingers. We will explain this in more detail in the next post.
- Dermo-cosmetic solutions. Applying certain facial products helps to combat flaccidity and slows the early signs of its appearance.
- With collagen and elastin. These two proteins can be incorporated into the body via solutions enriched with these substances. They are available in the form of cream, an ampoule or even as an injection.
- With proteoglycans. These are cell elements which provide firmness, hydration and elasticity to the skin and slow down premature aging, consequently proving to be very efficient in combating and preventing facial flaccidity
- With hyaluronic acid. This rehydrates the skin, fills wrinkles and stimulates the production of collagen, helping the skin regain its natural firmness. In the form of a cream or serum, hyaluronic acid is one of the best options to combat the premature aging of the skin.
