Strengthen your hair with a healthy, balanced diet

Hair loss is a reality that affects men more than women. However, for us it represents a greater problem, as our hair is vitally important to any woman’s physical appearance.

The average lifetime of each hair is two to three years and on average, we lose around a hundred hairs per day. It is also true that more hairs fall out at certain times of year, particularly in autumn, but also in summer, when our hair is drier, causing us to experience greater hair loss.

In addition to the external care our hair needs to slow this loss as much as possible, preventing hair loss requires a proper, balanced diet, making our hair strong and healthy.

Vitamins: essential for strong, healthy hair

Vitamins are one of the various nutrients that strengthen our hair and are effective in preventing hair loss. The following are essential:

A diet for nourishing your hair and preventing greater hair loss after summer

Sand, chlorine, high temperatures and the sun negatively impact our hair, causing it to dry out. Some foods help keep our hair hydrated, strong and healthy and prevent hair loss in the autumn, when hair is more liable to falling out.

  • Fluids, especially water. It is advisable to drink at least two litres of water a day so your hair can regenerate and recover its natural hydration.
  • Zinc, present in products such as brewer’s yeast and walnuts, prevents hair becoming brittle and is necessary for the production of keratin, a protein that nourishes and restructures hair strands.
  • Essential fatty acids. Walnuts, avocado and salmon naturally hydrate the hair because of their high essential fatty acid content. The body can’t produce these fats itself; we receive them through foods such as these. By adding these to your diet, your hair will be nourished from within.

If you follow this advice, then as well as having healthy, beautiful hair this summer, your hair will be stronger and ready to face autumn with no problems.
