You probably already know that the overindulgence on special Christmas days, which is a time full of family events, takes its toll on our skin. The tables are full of delicious dishes, infinite meals and fantastic homemade delicacies, paired with glasses that are never empty and delicious deserts that tempt you among wreaths and smiles. By following these steps you will stop your skin from suffering as well as making the most of this time of year.
We know that a balanced diet rich in vitamins and antioxidants, with abundant water intake, is the basis for healthy skin, giving hydration and reducing the adverse effects of the climate. But what we will come across in these coming days is as follows:
Starters: They are usually full of saturated fats, in the shape of cold meats that fill the plates, filled with uric acid and toxins also found in seafood. This hinders the renal excretion of fluid, whose retention produces systemic effects, in addition to the effects on our eyes, causing the dreaded bags and dark circles. It is highly recommended to incorporate food rich in essential fatty acids into your diet, such as omega 3 in oily fish.
Main course: Hypercaloric intake is directly proportional to the kindness of who has usually made the dishes, as we do not always know how to say no to them. We strongly suggest that you reduce your intake, reducing the amount of food and adjusting your diet to make it as varied as possible. The best thing is to choose simple and light plates abundant in fibre and vegetables (artichokes, carrots, tomatoes). By doing this, our digestive system won’t be overloaded with the absorption of oils, as our skin will also absorb more oils and the lipophilic effect prevents cutaneous hydration. Vegetable fibre acts as a filter and the minerals and antioxidants help with the correct tissue metabolism.
Deserts: If we make it through the multiple courses we will finally arrive at the deserts but we will struggle to find one without an enormous amount of complex sugars, therefore we advise you to replace them where possible for fresh fruit (strawberries, apples, kiwis, grapes or blueberries). Sugars cause oxidation of the skin and directly affect the formation of free radicals which contributes to the aging process. Limiting your intake and increasing the presence of complexes that contain vitamin B is essential, because they contribute to the good condition of the skin and the cell renewal processes (dry fruit, vegetables, fruit, lean meat, eggs).
Drinks: The best bet is to opt for water or citrus juice (including pineapple or tomato). Vitamins such as C and E help to improve the skin texture. However, as it will be impossible not to fall into the happiness of alcohol, it is essential to moderate your consumption. It is preferable to opt for wine or cava and pass up on the cocktail afterwards. Remember that one glass of red wine a day is healthy because it provides an intake of polyphenol antioxidants. With regard to infusions, they are a good choice; for example, so-called white tea has less stimulants and is rich in polyphenols and vitamins A and E.
A diet rich in minerals (zinc, selenium) and vitamins A, B, C and E as well as in antioxidants is essential for making sure that our skin gets the necessary nutrients to continue looking healthy.
