Autumn foods that help our skin

There is a link between diet and healthy skin. The effects of a healthy, balanced diet are apparent on the inside and on the outside. Now autumn has arrived, there are a number of seasonal foods which have benefits for your skin. Don’t forget to include them in your diet!

  1. Pomegranates: One of the typical antioxidants of the autumn period. Pomegranates do not contain saturated fats or cholesterol, and they are rich in vitamins C and K and dietary fibre. As a good antioxidant, they have the benefits of producing collagen and reducing skin blemishes, which is highly desirable after summer.
  1. Walnuts: Walnuts have components that are important for healthy skin, such as folic acid and vitamin B, which are linked to dermis functionality. A lack of vitamin B can cause skin problems like dermatitis or acne. Walnuts also have high levels of antioxidant substances such as vitamin E, vitamin A and zinc, which combat oxidation processes triggered by free radicals and cause skin to age.
  1. Oranges: Autumn is the time for oranges. The orange is another antioxidant with health benefits for the skin. The vitamin C present in oranges is very beneficial for stimulating collagen synthesis and brightening the face.
  1. Sweet potatoes: The sweet potato is a source of vitamins A and C and is therefore good at preventing acne.
  1. Pumpkin seeds: Pumpkins are a sure sign that autumn has arrived. Their seeds contain zinc, a mineral that aids collagen formation and is essential for the creation of new cells.
  1. Beetroot: Beetroot is a great source of anthocyanins, a powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation and slows down the aging process, thus helping to prevent wrinkles.

Now that you know the specific properties of autumn foods, be sure to know what your skin needs, and look for these foods on your next food shop.

Our advice: Being able to boast healthy skin does not come about in a day; it is about establishing a routine of good nutrition, cleanliness and moisturising. Paying attention to our food is essential if we want to have healthy skin.
