Summer is drawing to a close and slightly lower temperatures are almost starting to appeal. Autumn is shaking itself awake and is just around the corner. At this time of year, we should consider that our skin will soon suffer the effects of the change in temperature as one season turns into another and that we must prepare it in order to keep it looking bright and healthy.
That’s why today we want to give you some tips on preparing your skin so you can welcome in the autumn perfectly equipped for the upcoming colder months while also making you feel good so you don't miss summer too much.
Over summer your skin and you have enjoyed the outdoors, the sun and a well-earned break that I’m sure you were able to spend with your loved ones. But your skin has been losing some of its shine and requires a deep-cleansing process to completely recover its capacity for regeneration.
We recommend you use a gentle exfoliant to remove the toxins and dead cells that have been building up in the horny layer of the skin. This is an essential step to recovering its basic structure. You should also focalise treatments to reduce the age spots that formed over summer due to exposure to the sun.
You need to care for your skin not just on the outside but by recovering the hydration lost over the past few months. A deep skin cleanse will help the night treatments absorb better and reach the basal layer.
Finally, don't forget about sun protection. Skin must be protected year-round - and not just from the sun but also the wind and cold which will appear and cause it to dry out. That’s why we recommend you moisturise and protect your skin.
Go back to following a Mediterranean diet at all meals. You already know it is important to include foods with unsaturated fats and liposoluble vitamins (A, C, E and K), essential to skincare.
But don't forget foods like salmon, apples, olives, avocados, kiwi fruit and red berries, as they are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
Drink enough water - this will be essential to recovering liquid lost over the summer months. Your body and skin will appreciate it because it will encourage the elimination of the harmful substances that have built up in your body over summer due to excesses.
One foolproof aid is herbal tea (green or white), which is rich in antioxidants, encourages diuresis and fosters the elimination of harmful substances. But remember to drink more than just water to balance liquids lost in urine.
After resting in summer it’s back to your routine, so it’s off the sunbed and onto the office chair. But don't let it get you down - choose to take a positive attitude. Look back happily over the good times and don't get trapped in a rut again.
We recommend a gradual acclimatisation to slowly recover your pace of life and prevent against the post-holiday blues and associated stress:
